Junior Firefighter Challenge

Saugeen Shores | by Travis Jackson

A donation from the Power Workers Union will help fund the challenge in Saugeen Shores.

Thanks to a $3,000 donation from The Power Workers’ Union (PWU), kids will be able to team up and compete in their very own Junior Firefighter Challenge.

The challenge is an obstacle course modelled after the Bruce Power Fire Fit course, and will not ONLY be fun, but also be used to educate our youth.

The course will be uniquely designed for kids ages of 9 to 11 who sign up for the 6 week educational program run each year.

Fire officials say the course will be challenging, but portable so it can be set up at community events like fall fairs and school fundraisers.

Rob Atkinson, Fire Prevention Officer for the Saugeen Shores Fire Department, says there’s no greater way for kids to learn about fire safety than to take part in a hands-on, fun activity and according to him, this fits the bill perfectly.
