800 full time jobs are coming to Caledon - thanks to Amazon.
The company has announced plans for a new, 1 million square foot fulfillment centre in the town where employees will pick, pack and ship small items like books, electronics, and toys.
Full time employees will get hourly wages, health benefits, and bonuses, and there are jobs on both the line as well as in the corporate offices.
They will also pay up to 95 percent for access to programs like Career Choice, where a portion of education could be paid for to help with career goals whether it is to stay with Amazon or not.
Caledon Mayor Allan Thompson says they've heard from the youth in the community who said they would have to move away without opportunity and he says it's here.
Thompson says it involved a lot of hard work by town staff and council to meet the requirements to get Amazon to choose Caledon.
He also says to "stay tuned" more exciting economic development news is expected in the future.
The facility is currently under construction on Coleraine Drive south of Healey Road and will open in the fall of 2019.
