The Northern Bruce Truth and Reconciliation Group will hold the first of two events as part of the Walk A New Path Series in Tobermory tonight.

The group says the event is an interactive learning experience called the KAIROS Blanket Exercise. The idea is to teach 500 years worth of indigenous history in a half hour workshop.

The workshop, which will be held at the Tobermory Community Centre at 7 p.m. is developed by KAIROS, a faith based organization that dedicates itself to justice and human rights and takes its blanket exercise all over Canada.

In the workshop, participants take on the role of indigenous peoples in Canada, learning about pre-contact, treaty making, colonization and resistance.

Jackie Tenute, a Pottawatami and Ojibway Anishinaabe Kwe from Nayaashiinigmiing is the event facilitator. She is the Aboriginal Counselor at Algonquin College.

To register for the event, call Glenda at 519-596-8806 or email at [email protected] or call Jean at 519-596-2909.

Those who haven't registered should arrive at the Tobermory Community Centre at 6:30 p.m.

Organizers say there are still a few spots left.
