Mayor Says Goderich Undergoing Housing Boom

Goderich | by Peter Jackson

Mayor Kevin Morrison attributes boom to jobs surge in Huron County, and at Bruce Power in Tiverton.

The Mayor of Goderich is eager to see more new housing in town.

Kevin Morrison was commenting after approvals were given by the Town and Huron County, for construction of a new apartment building on the former Victoria Public School property.

The 29-unit complex will feature 12 affordable housing units.

Morrison tells Country 104.9 News that Goderich is becoming a destination for young families to settle.

He cites a report by the Four County Labour Market Planning Board, that says there are more job openings in Huron County than there are qualified workers to fill them.

Morrison mentions the work Fusion Homes is doing to gain regulatory approvals from the Ministry of Transportation in the town's south end.

Fusion plans to build over 200 new homes on the property, recently acquired from Central Huron.

Morrison adds that the new housing will be needed, especially with major expansion plans at Bruce Power near Tiverton.

He says management at the Bruce are looking at Goderich as a future settlement point for employees, in addition to those driving to the nuclear power plant from Kincardine and Saugeen Shores.
