UPDATED-It's The Heat And The Humidity

Collingwood | by Ian MacLennan

Environment Canada says this will be the most significant heat event in the past few years.

Prepare for what Environment Canada says will be the most significant heat event in the past few years.

Heat warnings are in effect from Simcoe County to the GTA and southwestern Ontario.

Over the Canada Day long weekend,  daytime highs will reach the low to mid 30s with humidex values into the mid 40s.

These steamy conditions could last through next week.

Cooling centres are open in Collingwood during regular business hours, and the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka's Health, Fitness & Aquatic Centre will be open and free to the public as cooling centres for the duration of the heat warning.
