Pitching Stellar in Baycats Win Over Maple Leafs
Garces goes 7, striking out 10; Castaldo drives in only run.
The Barrie Baycats didn't need to flex their offensive muscle.
They got outstanding pitching from starter Frank Garces in a 1-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs Thursday night.
The former San Diego Padre left-hander was able to escape the first inning after giving up a lead-off double to Grant Tamane.
He also got out of a first-and-third jam in the sixth with two out but struck out Justin Marra to end the inning.
Garces went 7 innings allowing 3 hits, walking one, and striking out ten.
The only run came on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Castaldo driving in Starlin Rodriguez in the third inning.
The Baycats (13-7) had a least one batter reach base in each inning and left the bases loaded in the eighth.
Santo Arias pitched the final two innings for the save.
RJ Page took the loss for the Maple Leafs (10-8) giving up that one run on 3 hits, allowing 3 walks, and striking out one over 4 innings.
The Baycats travel to London for their next game on Canada Day taking on the Majors.
