Chris Peabody now has some competition in the upcoming Brockton municipal race.
Former two time mayor Charlie Bagnato has thrown his name into the race for mayor.
Bagnato says he has the passion, the experience and the energy for the job.
For Bagnato the election boils down to a couple of key issues including: fiscal responsibility, tackling the debt, increasing housing which includes residential, seniors and affordable housing as well as taking care of the
Bagnato says local businesses have been suffering as they have been hit with skyrocketing hydro rates, an increase to the minimum wage and the need to compete with big names like Amazon and Wal-Mart.
He says it is important the municipality does what it can to support local businesses.
Bagnato will be running against current Councillor Chris Peabody.
Both Bagnato and Peabody were elected from the Walkerton Ward in 2000 following the Walkerton Ecoli Tragedy.
Bagnato says he and Peabody have been great cohorts for the last 18 years.
Peabody has been on Council ever since.
In 2007, Bagnato became Mayor of Brockton and held that position for two terms or seven years before losing the last two elections to current Mayor David Inglis.
Bagnato did give Inglis a run for his money in the last municipal election when he lost to Inglis by just 170 votes.
It’s Bagnato’s hope that this time around will be different and he will have the victory.
Bagnato is looking forward to the campaign ahead and says he is encouraged by all the support he has received from many in the community.
