Construction on a new Hospital in Markdale has taken another step forward, with final designs submitted to Queens Park.
Grey Bruce Health Services President and CEO Lance Thurston says the paper work was sent to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Tuesday for approval.
Thurston says they are inching closer to the finish line and are just about through the planning phase for the long-awaited new hospital for Centre Grey.
The Hospital President and CEO says revisions and details have been incorporated into the layout for medical equipment, interior and exterior finishes.
He adds the heating and cooling equipment, plus the building materials, have been chosen to increase energy efficiency, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
GBHS expects to hear back from the Ministry by the end of the summer.
Thurston says once approved, the project will move onto Stage 4, which involves developing contracts, finalizing construction-ready plans, completing and issuing tender documentation, and ultimately, awarding construction contracts.
Given this timeline, construction is expected to begin in 2020 and will take approximately two years to complete.
