Progress on Recovery of Computer Data - updated
Wasaga Beach |
Servers were hacked and were held by ransomware, data is now on a secure back-up server.
The Town of Wasaga Beach is slowly but surely recovering from a recent cyber attack.
Staff discovered ransomware was installed on the Town's computer system in April affecting the website and municipal services.
They say they have since been able to gain access to three of their servers.
The Town says it will inform the public if any of the data is compromised but believes none of it was.
The Town has also installed a new and secure off-site back-up service to protect the data from future attacks.
Town Council will be provided an update on the ransomware incident at a future meeting.
This story has been edited. An earlier version suggested the town was working with OPP in negotiating with the hackers. Town officials say that is not the case.
