It could be a busy day at town and township halls across Ontario. It's the first day of nominations for would-be town councillors, mayors and deputy mayors.

In Wasaga Beach, Brian Smith is widely expected to run for a second term as mayor, as is Chris Vanderkruys in Clearview. In Collingwood, Mayor Sandra Cooper has said she will not run for re-election. In Springwater township, Mayor Bill French has told some media outlets, he plans to run again, while Barrie's mayor Jeff Lehman is also expected to try for another term.

Candidates require at least 25 signatures of eligible voters, and must pay a $100 fee to run for council, $200 for mayor.

The municipal election is on October 22. The deadline to declare as a candidate is July 27th.
