Storm Posed Challenges For Orillia Snow Clearing

Orillia | by Ian MacLennan

City officials say there was 21 cm of snow, 5 cm of ice pellets on top of freezing rain and strong winds.

The clean-up continues in Orillia following the weekend storm.

Kyle Mitchell, Manager of Source Protection and Operations, says he had eight plows and four sidewalk plows on the go throughout the weekend.

Unlike previous snowfalls this season,  this dumping has proved challenging because the snow is dense and heavy.

On top of the 21 cm of snow,  the city also experienced 5 cm of ice pellets as well as freezing rain and strong winds.

Mitchell says it did create a bit of havoc.

The most difficult aspect is the sidewalk clearing, according to Mitchell.

He says that's because of the amount of weight within the snow.

While winter parking restrictions were lifted on the weekend,  Mitchell is asking residents not to park their vehicles on the roads so plows can get the work completed.
