Natural Gas Projects Approved In The Area

Regional | by Kevin Bernard

The biggest project is in southern Bruce County with a 27.7 Million dollar grant from Queens Park.

Some BIG news for people living and working in Southern Bruce County.

Kincardine, Huron-Kinloss and Arran-Elderslie residents, farmers and business owners will soon be able to get a cheaper form of energy.

Queens Park has announced a 27.7 million dollar grant to bring Natural Gas to the area.

Kincardine Mayor Anne Eadie says the three municipalities have been pushing since 2011 to get an expansion approved.

Eadie says bringing Natural Gas to the area will save upwards of 20 million dollars a year in energy costs.

The big question that remains, is whether the project will be done by Union Gas of EPCOR.

Both companies are pushing hard to win the project and a decision is expected soon from the Ontario Energy Board on which Natural Gas company will do the work.

The Southern Bruce County Project is one of 11 approved by the Liberal government on Tuesday (Apr. 3rd).

There is also a 1.8 million dollar project planned for Saugeen First Nation at Chippewa Hill that has been approved.
