The MP for Bruce Grey Owen Sound is backing Meaford when it comes to who should pay for repairs to the break wall.
The break wall was damaged in the fall during a storm, and it is expected to costs between $65,000 to $75,000 to fix.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans thinks Meaford, who leases the break wall, should pay half of the bill.
However, Meaford say the lease states the DFO is responsible for their asset, and the municipality would not be held liable if something were to happen.
That includes financially.
MP Larry Miller hand-delivered a letter to the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, Dominic LeBlanc, regarding the need for the DFO to honour an agreement with Meaford and fund urgent repairs at the Meaford Harbour.
Miller says the agreement between the Municipality and the department is crystal clear – the Municipality is not responsible for costs associated with repair work.
He says his letter to the Minister calls on him to instruct his officials to honour the signed agreement and cease this attempt to download costs onto the municipality.
