Orillia Man Wound Up Over Property Taxes

Orillia | by Ken Hashizume

Scott Maclagan will get a chance to address his concerns to city council.

An Orillia man will get his day, not in court, but with City Council.

Scott Maclagan will be making a deputation to Council about property taxes.

Maclagan lives in the North Lake development off Laclie Street in the north end of the city.

He wanted to address Council on the recent MPAC (Municipal Property Assessment Corporation) assessment of his common element condominium.

Maclagan believes it is unfair the way he and other residents living in this type of housing are being taxed.

But the City rejected his request for a deputation citing it does not meet Council's mandate.

Councillor Tim Lauer addressed Council last Monday (5th) saying while the City had a right to deny the deputation based on those grounds, he does think Maclagan should be allowed to address his concerns to Council.

Council agreed to allow Maclagan to make a deputation to Council at a future meeting.
