The County of Bruce has purchased a parcel of land in Southampton that will enable the future expansion of the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre.
It all stems from part of the museum's strategic plan on how they could grow and expand in future, both display/exhibit wise as well as the programming offered.
Cathy McGirr, Director of Museum and Cultural Services for Bruce County, says a feasibility study examined how they could repurpose their existing space but there were also concerns about running out of space at some point down the road.
"It became pretty apparent that we would need to have more space available to us because we simply do not have the space that we need for the growth that's anticipated over the next several years," says McGirr.
The land in question, is located at 254 High Street, and was purchased from St. Paul's Anglican Church.
This gives the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre the potential for definite expansion if and when it is needed, which will likely be the case as the years go on.
"(The land) is south of the museum currently, so it's basically adjacent to the museum," adds McGirr. "It's the manse to the church so we did work with St. Paul's Anglican Church with regards to the sale of the property."
