Tonight is Oscar night and the red carpet will be rolled out at Galaxy Cinemas in Owen Sound.
The 90th Academy Awards will be shown on the big screen at the 9th annual Awards Night At The Movies, a fundraising event for the United Way of Bruce Grey that has all the fanfare and glamour of the Hollywood event.
Local United Way Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn says everyone is invited to dress up but you don't have to break the bank to do it, "It's the value village, the Salvation Army, the thrift store, it's that bridesmaid dress in the back of the closet."
As you walk the red carpet, Dobbyn says there will be paparazzi on site and you can take home your photo by donation.
Bayshore Broadcasting's Allan Gibbons will be there interviewing people about their outfits and Oscar picks. He'll also do some trivia in the theatre.
Dobbyn adds those red carpet interviews are shown on the big screen during commercials.
There will be also silent auction prizes straight from the studios themselves as well as art, jewelry and other items.
You can also try your hand at choosing winners in each award category on a ballot sheet. The person who gets the most correct answers will win a prize. The grand prize is a TV donated by Leon's Furniture Owen Sound.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the United Way in downtown Owen Sound at 380 9th St E, Owen Sound, or call (519) 376-1560 and pay over the phone by credit card.
The money goes to the United Way's backpack program which provides about 2,000 local children with school supplies each year.
The event begins at 7:30 p.m. Sunday March 4th.
Dobbyn says because it's such a long event and can sometimes go until 11:30 p.m. people are not restricted to their seats and are free move around the theatre and lobby and chat or eat.
The theatre itself is not licenced, but a cash bar is available next door at Joe Tomato's.
The United Way and Galaxy Cinemas Owen Sound have permission of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to hold the event.
