Won’t you please consider planning a gift for your hospital in your will?

Owen Sound residents John and Dorothy MacLeod supported their hospital over many years.  Together, they gave gifts in memory of friends and neighbours and benefitted the hospital (and themselves) through a charitable gift annuity.  John volunteered at the hospital through the Golden K for 10 years.

After Dorothy passed away in 2006, Mr. MacLeod approached the Foundation with the idea of leaving a gift in his will.  He wanted to do something for the hospital in Dorothy’s memory.

With encouragement from his children, John gave a $30,000 gift of securities instead.  Shares were transferred from Mr. MacLeod’s investment account to the Foundation’s account.  He received a receipt for the full value of the securities and avoided all capital gains.  The Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation redeemed the shares with no tax consequences.

Mr. MacLeod’s gift helped renovate and furnish a new palliative care family room on the hospital’s 6th floor Medical Nursing Unit.  The room provides a warm, comfortable, safe place for palliative patients and their families.

Patients at risk of falls while in hospital are also benefitting from Mr. MacLeod’s gift.  Three new “hi-lo” patient beds were purchased.  These can be positioned just six inches from the floor, virtually eliminating the risk of injury from a fall.

Gifts of securities are simple to arrange during your lifetime or from your Estate and offer excellent tax savings!  Best of all, they help improve services at your hospital.  For more information, contact your hospital foundation office.
