We Should All Play Like Our Women

Talk about a perfect example of the Olympic spirit and never saying die.

That was what Mondays soccer game between Team Canada and the USA was all about.

The Canadian squad entered that game against the world and Olympic champions as huge under dogs.

It was expected the Americans would blow the Canadian women out of the water.

At least that is what all the experts predicted.

However the experts never expected the tough gritty Canadians would push the US to the point that for three times during the game it looked like the Canucks were heading towards achieving one of the biggest upsets of women's sport.

However, as we all know that was not the case as the Canadian women were defeated not only by the Americans, but by the Norwegian referee as well.

The positive from all of this if there is a positive,is the fact the Canadian women never once gave up and continued to press the Americans up until the final seconds of the match.

The performance of the team Captain is also something that should empower young women right across the country.

What a remarkable performance by Christine Sinclair scoring all three of Canada's goals.

In fact the determination of the Canadian women in not only holding their own against a superior opponent but almost defeating them should show other Canadians the importance in believing in ourselves.

This should be a great rallying cry as the team gets ready for tomorrows contest against France for the Bronze. It also beings a whole new meaning to the so called put down phrase...."you play like a girl."

This time, being told "you play like a girl" has to be one of the best complements a person can ever receive.
