Media Role In Murder

Over the past couple of weeks we have been subjected to mass murder on a grand scale.

In Toronto an individual decided to shoot up a block BBQ killing two and injuring 23.

Five days ago in Aurora, Colorado -- a gun toting 24 year old shot up a theatre full of people killing 12 and injuring over 50, the question everyone asks after the carnage is.....why?

I don't propose to answer that question here because I really have no idea.

In coverage of these latest murders we've been reminded of the L"Ecole Polytechnique and Dawson College shootings in Montreal, the Columbine massacre and others where many have died including the shooter and we never really seem to get the answer as to why, lots of speculation but no real answer.

It's been mentioned before many times but I want to mention it again, could we the media be in part responsible.

When we talk of the media's role in coverage of these events you have to wonder if the attention given those responsible on Radio, television, newspapers and the internet is in fact, what they are after, they kill to be famous.

We are bombarded daily in and on the media that show murders of every sort and shape.

A study done a few years back said we are subjected to about two thousand murders a year in movies, on TV, we cover murder trials and run TV shows constantly  that feature crime, mostly murder....

Can subjecting people, every day to this so called entertainment, actually desensitize people to the point they are prepared to kill others to become famous.

I'm Dan McLean and From Where I Sit -- I'm not naming names here basically because if I do then I'm feeding what it is they are after and encouraging others with the mind set to actually do it as well.

This may be simplistic but I believe we in the media give these lunatics way to much coverage and its because we believe you the public want to know.;

Tell me I'm wrong, I hope I am.
