Slots Decision Makes No 'Cents'

The province has done it again.

You know, maybe I'm just out of step and really have no concept of the bigger picture but I can't for the life of me, figure out why the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission is shutting down racetrack slots sometime next year.

Actually some slots facilities are already shut down.

Couple of weeks ago, I had occasion to visit a racetrack with a slot facility attached.

We've all seen them and likely most of us have visited them.

Don't jump to conclusions here that I'm upset because I spend a lot of time at the slots.

Not true.

I might go twice a year during the summer racing season.

Frankly playing the slots bores me but I enjoy the sounds and enjoy watching people win and lose.

Another thing I noticed, everyone was having fun.

By golly I even blinked once and managed to lose 20-dollars in the nickel slots no less but it was entertainment money and not food and milk money.

I was really at the facility killing time until the trots started where again, I had set aside a certain amount of cash to wager on the ponies.

In both facilities, everyone was enjoying themselves except for a few diehards that study the program and make what they believe to be educated predictions.

I guess the point is, this facility, like many across rural Ontario seem to be thriving and providing a fun service for those that wish to partake for an evening's entertainment with the family -- at least at the trots.

But no, OLG would rather shut 'em down, put a ton of people out of work and pretty well end the fun of a lot of people.

I really don't understand what the province is doing except being a pain you know where.

When's the next election?

I'm John Divinski.
