Premier Wants Some Space

The premier of all the people... wants a little space..

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty says he will no longer participate in media scrums, where reporters stand right beside him, or directly in front of him.

McGuinty, and lets be clear about this... his handlers, want journalists to stand back five feet rather than putting their microphones in his face.

The Opposition says the Premier is just trying to distract the voter, during a soft economy.

I can tell you from experience, this Premier wants to be treated with kid gloves.

When he stopped in London for an appearance on the radio, his advance man wanted to go all thru the radio station, meeting whoever McGuinty would talk with and check everyone over.

In fact, his security guy wanted someone to hold the elevator door open for the Premier, and have someone else hold open the door to the radio station.

I'm not sure what the big hoopla was all about. Most people would have no idea who Premier Dalton McGuinty is if they ran into on the street.

As far as his move to push back reporters in a scrum, Professor Henry Jacek of McMaster University in Hamilton says McGuinty's handlers want to project a more presidential image.

It's nice to see the job hasn't got the best of Premier McGuinty. He's still got that common man touch, don't you think.
