July 28, 2010 This Saturday is food day in Canada. This a time to celebrate everything that is good about locally grown food from coast to coast. Until last year Food Day Canada was known as The World's Longest Barbecue, says chief organizer Anita Stewart, award-winning author and well-known food She says back in 2003 the goal was to collectively celebrate the food of Canada - specifically beef because of BSE crisis and the devastation in that industry at this time. Stewart says this is a chance to create a day that showcases our extraordinary ingredients and a time when our farming/fishing communities are top of mind. The only requirement she is to cook great local/regional/national foods on Saturday July 31st and then post the menus. This year more than 35 restaurants in Ontario are taking part in food day. So this Saturday, take the time to visit your local farmers market and load up on locally grown vegetables, meat , poultry fish and baked goods then that evening invite some friends over and celebrate everything that is good about locally grown Canadian Food.
