Get Rid Of The Hat
I am no Emily Post or Ms. Manners and on occasion I am guilty of abusing
some of the most common forms of etiquette but I have noticed a trend that
even I find somewhat disturbing.
Men not removing their baseball caps when eating a meal in a restaurant.
I noticed this on vacation where a good 60 per cent of the men in the
resorts dining room chowed down with their cap firmly planted on their head.
After that I started to take notice of what was happening in other eating
establishments and low and behold, the hat firmly planted on head movement
seems to be taking over.
Hardly anyone, mostly men but sometimes women are removing their hat while
eating.
In my humble opinion, that's just plain rude and boorish.
People who do not remove their hats indoors are ill-mannered and are only
expressing disrespect for themselves and others.
Where did this annoying trend come from?
Well one etiquette expert clearly lays the blame at the foot of these
people's parents, who did not teach their children the importance of good
manners.
Showing respect for your fellow human beings is the mark of an advanced,
enlightened society.
Removing your hat indoors, standing when someone enters a room, opening a
door for someone, saying please and thank you all demonstrate an admirable
degree of civility.
Sadly, it seems that is a quality that is quickly being pushed to the
sidelines of life, to be ignored by the majority and ultimately forgotten by
future generations.
So to all you baseball cap wearers out there, take it off indoors because
real men not only eat quiche, they do so without wearing a hat.
